Well… where do I start! I figured since I’m the resident marketing expert for a Top Producing Calgary Real Estate Team, that I should share my unique perspective on buying my first home with my fiancé, Megan. Not only did we buy a house, we officially purchased days before a world changing pandemic. What could possibly go wrong!?
I won’t make you wait in suspense. Fortunately for us, it went as smoothly as we could have dreamt. That is due to the incredible support and guidance we received from everyone who assisted us in the process. From my entire team at the Home Sweet Home Team, to Derek Gareau at A Buyer’s Choice Home Inspections , to Réal Leblanc at DLC Elevation Mortgage, and Derek Cougle and Ann Recsky at Cougle + Co.
After almost 8 years of working in Calgary real estate, as a member of the Home Sweet Home Team, it was mine and Megan’s turn to be the clients. Like most millennials, we got a dog and decided that our cozy Downtown Calgary Condo no longer fulfilled our housing needs.
From the start of the process, Charles Zhang, who some of you might know as, Big China, was there for us, determined to help us find our dream first home. We knew we wanted an affordable house with more space, but we didn’t want to give up the Inner-city Calgary lifestyle we were accustom to. After over a year of casually viewing inner-city Calgary homes, we finally found the perfect property just out of Downtown in Richmond. If it wasn’t for Charles’s guidance, we would have never found our dream home. As anyone that has had the opportunity to work with him knows, you couldn’t find a more accommodating, easy going, knowledgeable and passionate real estate associate. He always had time for us, even if it meant juggling around his schedule. There was never any pressure from him. I truly think he would have showed us a thousand properties if he had too. Luckily, that wasn’t necessary.
Our Team Leader Julie and the rest of our team, Megan, Evan and Mindy also deserve a massive shoutout. They were always there for any questions, feedback and encouragement that we needed along the way. Being on the client side of things, made me truly appreciate how special our team is.
I’ll keep the rest short and sweet, which is not a reflection of how important all these people and services were to mine and Megan’s journey.
At the very of beginning of the process, we met with to Réal Leblanc at DLC Elevation Mortgage to get pre-qualified for financing and gather an idea of what price range we could afford. As someone who has worked in real estate for years, the in’s and out’s of the financing world still occasionally leave me confused. Lucky for us, Réal lives and breathes home financing. His vast mortgage knowledge and his seamless and easy to understand explanations made the process as seamless as possible. With his recommendations, we were able to secure an unbelievable interest rate that we’re confident we couldn’t have beat anywhere else.
Once we conditionally purchased our home, we knew the next big step was a home inspection. Since we were buying a home built in 1956, we knew the importance of choosing an inspector that could give us the peace of mind that we were making a savvy investment. Thanks to Derek Gareau at A Buyer’s Choice Home Inspections, we were instilled with the confidence that we were doing just that. His home inspection covered all the bases; it was extensive, well explained, and allowed us to make an informed decision to proceed with our purchase. We also have a detailed inspection report we can reference for years to come.
Last but certainly not least, is the real estate legal assistance we received, courtesy of the coolest lawyer not named Harvey Spector, Derek Cougle. Thanks to Derek and Ann at Cougle + Co we were assured that all of our legal requirements required on our purchase were fulfilled in a timely fashion. When choosing a real estate lawyer, trust is of utmost importance. With Cougle + Co, we were always confident that our best interests were being looked out for.
